When it comes to military ambient Cold Fusion is definitely my favorite. I haven`t heard any bad or average music made by them. So, I put a lot of hope in "Part IV" and I wasn`t disappointed. Cold Fusion perfectly managed the hard task to created music demonstrating the atmospher from the tragic 63 days of 1944. The single consists of two tracks lasting about 11 minutes. The first one called is "9th of August Act I", this is one of the best Cold Fusion`s track I ever heard - carefully worked- out, well considered and very emotional. The basic of the track is a melody played by the piano and recording of the Polish Radio started to transmit in a fighting capital on the 9th of August 1944 after 5 years of occupation. A tension is rising togheter with successive reports from the batlefield where the insurgents were defending. In the middle of the track kettledrums are coming up especially heavy but sounding as far away. There is a culminatning point after is a light silence of the music, in the foreground the voice of the Polish Radio speaker is informing what is going on in Warsaw. I think, the music as well as the chosen recording are excellently combined engraving on memory, releasing special deep feelings and images. I will not quote the whole text but the most moving words coming up at the end of the track before the music is totally silent: "Warsaw doesn`t want any admiration from you. Doesn`t want any condolences. We demand the guns, the anti-armour tools and ammunition." The second track is called "9th of August Act II" and it is much more darker than the first one. During the track the sound sounds like it is coming from far away, made weaker by industrial noice. For a moment a very weak voice of a radio speaker comes up and afterwards a rather dramatic piano melody is played in the foreground. The single "63 Days Part Part IV" made a big impression on me and it is one of my favorites when it comes to ambient. My opinion is very positive and I`m glad that we can be proud of so great projects like Cold Fusion.
