Cyferdyne - Keep Your Silence

After merely one release Cyferdyne began to strive for maturity and technical aptitude that many a band fails to achieve throughout their entire lifespan. The resulting sophomore record "Keep Your Silence" is an extension of almost every idea that gave shape to their 2012 début "Genesys" but played better, crisper and, in some cases, with a staggering emotional involvement that elevates Cyferdyne's latest effort far past the majority of the UK's electro outfits.
A lot of the energy that the trio of Andy, Steven and Adam attempt to generate with their performance translates effortlessly beyond the immediate resonance of their live shows and into the bouncy, clear melody lines of the album's content. Musically "Keep Your Silence" is defined by act's sharp focus on accessibility and stylistic cogency, informed not by the gloomy, angered spectrum of the scene but rather its polar opposite. Tracks like "Cables and Codes" and "Jigsaw" carry an endless supply of body energizing beats, rich in the positive, often melancholy ingredient akin to the bands like VNV Nation or Assemblage 23, similarly driven by the precision of the anthemic, club friendly arrangements and the aptly developed lyrical layer.
Considering the importance of the latter to even the most obviously dance floor destined tracks on this album, the weight of the emotional impact lies heavily on Steven Houghton's delivery. Where "Genesys" had the vocals obscured by a variety of manipulations, "Keep Your Silence" sees Steven's confidence grow, benefiting those compositions that rely strongly on the romantic, future pop inspired mode of expression. "Glass" imprints itself in the listener's memory almost instantly, giving Cyferdyne their first real opportunity to slow the tempo down and properly big up the inevitable crescendos that punctuate its flow. The addition of some beefy guitars combined with the truly intense chorus make for a show stopping concoction, and one that spills into later "Escape", albeit accompanied by more dynamic current, and even more patient and affecting pseudo ballad "Clockwork".
Ultimately "Keep Your Silence" does a splendid job of balancing its tone, effortlessly slipping in and out of the all out club assault, thanks to the unifying tissues of Cyferdyne's work, their continuing commitment to the melodic and meticulous song writing, and the passionate execution.
Expect to, throughout the record's length, be in equal parts compelled to ponder and uncontrollably follow the beat with the entirety of your body. Cyferdyne fashioned a truly memorable future pop/ electro release that will surely stand the test of time and, beyond its function as a piece of entertaining genre music making, will help your tired soul soar, even if only for a few minutes.
