At the very beginning one should say a few words about this band, which indeed doeasn’t seem to be known among wider group of alternative music enthusiasts. Lost Area consists of four musicians: the main Finder and producer Jan, vocalist Asli, producer/vocalist Mark Bear and also spreading his singing Andi Grundler.
The band was founded in 2005, when we could listen to the album "Gabriel". Next Works have reached us merely one year later, that is 11 November the album "Dare to Dream" got into the shops. The third and yougest at the same time child of the artists, which saw the daylight in 2008, we’ll just take up today because I want to present you a record "Man Machine" being also a great step forward on the way to capture the hearts of wider audience, besides it is an evidence for that with the growth of artist’s age, their music matures as well...
I must frankly admit that this album didn’t arouse my unusual interest at the start. Simply, we have to do with just another dose of music held in convention of romantic synthpop/ darkwave /dark electro. All sounds composed and recorded by the Germans, drawing attention with their propriety and accuracy with which they were chosen, however, can we consider only this suggestion in overall assessment? Well, there are two sides to every coin, as besides technical issues, also the lirycal aspect matters, the one that makes our flesh creep during the listening of particular track. I’m aspiring to tell you that exactly from this point of view I’ve experienced a slight disappointment listening to "Man Machine", which consists of (!) 15 tracks, for the first time. Blutengel, Sisters of Mercy, Pride And Fall, In Strict Confidence, and even admixtures of Nightwish are only few of numerous inspirations that can be caught easily by every ear sophisticated with this type of music. These are my impressions after a few first listenings, yet a fool is the one who at once criticizes something they don’t know... and to get familiar with Lost Area’s music I had to more time on it. I must say, it worked!
It is a light material, melancholic lyrics in which there’s no lack of references to, how close to us all, men-women’s relations, and also irresistable impressions of "dialogue" between them, these are few of the benefits I was able to notice. The title song "Man Machine" with a very "catchy" melody makes us start to hum "come with me man machine..". Then we are carried awal by masculine vocals, with female admixtures in "Amnesia", enigmatic "Unborn", ballad-like "I Am Here" or "Soulfoe (club mix)" for the last coupe of weeks invariably occupying the 4th position of German Electronic Web Charts, which, in my opinion, will make a stay on many dancefloors. The whole thing is very coherent and one could say that the musicians have learned well comparing to their previous albums.
Summing up the release, it’s ideal for people wanting to rest from harsher, psychodelic sounds. Maybe not perfect, yet neat work, pulled together by danceable music, a combination of synth sounds, interesting samples, and emotionally filled vocal, that seizes a man into emotional dance of spirit and body.
