ZyniC - Dreams In Black and White

As my musical preferences are quite broad, I’ve decided to switch from harsh sounds to something different for a change. Therefore I’ve prepared for you a review of a single "Dreams in Black and White" from a band called ZyniC.
Apart from the title song, the single consist of 4 variation of this track and a song called "Rescue Me (Iris RMX Edit)". Let’s start from the beginning, meaning the title track. First thing you have to know is that it is not an ambitious piece of music. Yes, it is quite catchy (even too much), but it’s also very cheesy. Frankly, I should have expected that, considering the band describing itself as electro/new wave/pop on their myspace profile, pop being especially vivid. The beats are extremely catchy, although they tend to sound very disco-like.
All in all, from the four alternative versions of the single I like "Beborn Beton Vintage Mix" best, due to its light and unforced beat. I also mentioned another song, "Rescue Me (Iris RMX Edit)", and I have to say it’s the second thing that I like on this single. When it comes to the atmosphere, its slightly more dark compared to the rest of the tracks, the beginning being even similar to Icon of Coil (which I like very much). The rest of the song is a bit different, but still very interesting. Coming back to the alternative versions of "Dreams in Black and White" I have to say that I liked them more than the original. Each incorporates an interesting element.
To sum up, it’s definitely a great piece of music to dance to. It’s nothing special, but the two tunes I mentioned are definitely coming up on top (maybe "A23 RMX Edit" can be added to that as well). Nevertheless, I’m curious what ZyniC will have to offer on a full album as for me they seem quite capable.
