When it comes to interesting projects from the dark independent circle, Italy has more and more to offer. Alkemic Generator is one of those Mediterranean black pearls, which differentiates image of the scene, from which they derive, by experiments combining EBM with female opera parties, but they are not limited to a single genre, and they try their strengths also in other styles of dark music.
The Wishful Illusion EP was released last day of February 2013 by Nilaihah Records, a month before the release of their debut album The Oniric Geometry, which should draw attention of many electronic music fans, and consists of a set of two compositions from their debut record served in several versions.
Firstly trio casts Wish track, in which EBM is interwoven with distorted guitars - all at a moderate pace and a go ahead, accessible flair, in which contributes a soothing female vocal, that at the right moments is rough, to properly give a way of varied emotions. But more demanding listener, who decides to accustom with the works of Alkemic Generator right from The Wishful Illusion, the composition may not interest at all, and thus in consequence gives misleading view of the general level of the other recordings. Wish is actually a fairly average point, but you can not fault it much.
On the other hand introducing to altered states of consciousness Illusion unlikely that point shines like a diamond. Because of the darkness that is leaking from the force of presented sounds I am not sure, if the "shine" is the right word. There is power, melody, hypnotizing heavy rhythm that grabs to unconscious dance the whole body, and making mind more easily susceptible to the action of this sonic drug. Hallucinogenic features are deepen by diverse vocal - once it hits unearthly with a blast of opera manner, sometimes maintaining at a constant level of madness in a strong voice. Whole is seasoned with guitar weight that focuses on one track filled with mystical atmosphere of the band's strongest trademark.
Let’s move to the remixes, because they are the main course of the evening.
Alkemic Generator set on the diversity of flavors – they did not stick to just exquisite, tangy, seasoned with addictive wine dark music. The effect of this genre mish-mash is phenomenal - after all sweet vanilla adds the charm to many dishes.
From dance version of trance to raving number of bpm or woven into soft sounds of the piano till dark industrial - there is everything, that fan of the electronic music could want in general. Each of the remixes, though their level is different, can be a pleasure for the listener.
From the three remixes of Illusion the first one - "FatStack feat Hant! Remix" - is the most surprising position on the tracklist. Soft guitar, slow pace, and above all the broken beat make the total, brilliant inversion of the climate, causing, that the most gloomy track from The Oniric Geometry becomes sweet, but not of luscious taste, that is noticeable at all time of the musical meal.
PsioniC also fulfilled the entrusted task. It is hard, dark and unevenly (associated with tribal drums are just one of the many interesting items), which makes his work one of the favorites.
Of the Wish remixes worth to mention is "Reserve Remix". Balanced progressive trance at a moderate pace that has been enhanced with a "live" piano popping up in a few motifs, which gives it a soothing, dreamlike character. "Restriction 9 Remix" completes the satisfaction.
The Wishful Illusion is actually generated in an electronical shell pearl, once gleaming, once reflecting black in the light of the stroboscope, and the mere music of Alkemic Generator and policy making, that on that EP are tracks deriving from various musical roots, makes the group one of the most valuable and promising beginners.
