In the title song of the last album of Clan of Xymox, "In Love We Trust," we can clearly hear a distinctive sound of the guitar, so characteristic of the group, yet it is clear that the band is constantly receding into electronics.
"Emily" is typically electronic music, one can surely say it sounds even like a dance song: simple, catchy (to such an extent does it sink in that you go around humming it under your breath.)
In "Love Got Lost" I caught Ronny singing out of tune, which even his gothicly mailing voice could not hide. It is a simple and naive chaunteusse (I can't call it differently) which did not appeal to me, even after a few good months of listening. Much more interesting, both arrangemently and vocally, is "On a Mission." "Morning Glow" i salso very good, melancholic, yet extraordinarily catchy, perfect for a night with a pillow - calms down in the proper sense of the phrase. The sounds ofthis song reminds me AT some points of i-dosers.
"Desdemona" is a song, witch starts with the guitar, apparently kept in the old style of COX, not overly stuffed with electronics. It reminds me of the old Xymox’ records.
"Hail Mary" is another captivating track, it is true that I did not let the song overwhelm me right away, but was trying to convince myself to it gradually, and over the time it became one of my favorites on the album.
However, while listening to "Judas" I get goose bumps – sort of a positive reaction to the music which numbs my every nerve and leads to a state of intoxication. This is definitely my favorite song on "In Love We Trust," as for me it is a sheer perfection – full of a particular atmosphere, musically coherent, devoid of weaknesses and possesing "something".
"Sea of Doubt" is another dolorous, hungry piece of music, in my opinion created forcibly, probably inserted just to fill up the track list. Tiring and annoying, and the longer I listen to it, the more doubts I have as to why the song was actually put on the album.
On the whole, I regard "In Love We Trust"as a good record, featuring at least a few gems.
Cover - interesting, thought-provoking, encouraging.
