Following up on 2024’s CMBCRST album, and arriving during the final days of the band’s Still Making Monsters Tour, the song presents a mournful rumination on the destruction of the Earth due to humanity’s "parasitic consumption" of the planet; with the refrains of "The sun has abandoned us," the song is in LaPlegua’s words, "a farewell letter wrapped in static for a future we no longer deserve." Reaching back not only to Combichrist’s earlier material reminiscent of the 2010 album Making Monsters, but also to LaPlegua’s earlier work in Icon of Coil, he clarifies that the darkly melodic approach was "not for nostalgia, but to carve a path through the ashes." The "Desolation" single was released, June 5, via Out of Line Music, available now on all major streaming outlets.
