Not every group can boast a career as long as De/Vision's. Not every group has a fanbase similar to that of De/Vision, too. Finally, not every group can release a record after so many years, that will satisfy fans and not only fans. Such delicacies occur not only in one of the mobile providers' services, but also on our scene. Nobody expected something new, nobody expected mega-experiments and maybe that's why "Subkutan" is so good. Nobody announced musical revolutions, nobody promised heaps of gold, and maybe that's why it's so hard to say anything negative about the record. After many years on the scene, many releases: records, singles, EPs, De/Vision represents a musical level developed through all those years. We don't get anything more or less than De/Vision on this record, and that's what the phenomenon is about. As if the creators wanted to say: "we don't have to create compilations and re-releases to sounds as good as you remember us to sound." Regardless of the fact that the LP sounds like the "good old" De/Vision, it's still fresh and up-to-date, even timeless, as it's of no importance when, what year and at what stage of their career the group released such an LP. What's more - the more I listen to it, the more I'm concerned that it's a voyage through all the stages of De/Vision. We have courageous riffs, live instruments (just as on "Void"), clever synth melodies and emotions coming from these songs. Though it might be a bit strange to people, who have been listening to the group for years... My fave track on the album, a definite catch-tune, not leaving my senses for a long time now is "Star Crossed Lovers". I'm aware though that this solitary, melancholical track is not the last one like that, it's hard to find heavy, incomprehensible or unpleasant tracks on the record. "Subkutan" is the essence of De/Vision, the core theme surrounded by so many emotions, all the best in De/Vision, the purest and most desirable. In 2006 we've received a record that can satisfy me. An album that I've approached anxiously, that attempted to surprise me... successfully. The only thing to rant about is the fact that if you want to feel awe listening to the new release, you have to know and like De/Vision even just a tiny bit. Some might complain that the record does not sound as new as it should, refreshing back the previous records. If you're looking for experiments and new sensations, explorations and musical groping - do not get the new "Subkutan"! If you're looking for the space inhabited by De/Vision, the space worked out busily through the years, where the paths are carefully indicated, aiming at perfection, and above all - the space where the musicians feel at home - you must buy this album.
