It’s been 8 years since the last album "Version 3.0". At the end of May we could enjoy the fourth studio album of the band entitled "Endorphines" which should be understood literally. It’s an amazing dose of fresh energy and completely new emotions which hadn’t been evoked by the previous albums.
The material for a new album has been prepared for a few years, members and style of Desdemona have been changing. Agnieszka Leśna brought new energy in the vocal section and crazy electronics is done by the present keyboarder – Robert Pląskowski and we can only envy him his musical genius and rich imagination.
The previous releases were poorer Or even deprived of electronics, more depressive, hard, momentarily oppressively dark. The new Desdemona is definitely more melodious, dynamic, multidimensional. The masterly electronics is supported by powerful guitar sound. The tracks are not monotonous, they are full of turns and contrasts. This music is alive.
At this point I have to say some words about the new vocalist. She smuggles classical vocal parts into industrial music easily. She has very diversified timbre and goes beyond the conventional female vocal in similar bands. She has got beautiful voice which she uses confidently in many different ways. And really big potential. Her interpretations are full of emotions though they are not pompous. She can murmur sensuously, laugh derisively, whisper, shout and vibrate.... all of these of course fits other layers of compositions and makes them unique.
There are hardly any releases which may be described as simultaneously diverse and coherent. Each track is different but all have the same energy which does not let you sit calmly during listening. The material is prepared in detail but not exaggerated. "Endorphins" stands out, evokes hidden in the title emotions and leaves the listeners in the state of blissful insufficiency, which may be satisfied by another dose of endorphins.
"Bring in All" is started by a warning horn, countdown, hard beat and in a moment there are powerful guitars. Gorgeous vocal, confident voice from the very first track. "desDream" is industrial, cybernetic. Delicate vocal, darkness and brightness alternately. "Poison" is my favourite track. Magnetic, trance, very sensual. Hypnotizing vocal and fame fatale motif. "Jealous sky": electronic madness, kind of dark electro. Energetic vocal, guitar riffs. "Devil’s game" is dark, full of dark guitar sounds. Crazy, enjoyably psychedelic voice and mad electronics. "Sorrow" is the most distinguishable among the other tracks. The piano, pulse, string instruments, electronics, gothic. Classical singing, operatic vocal, metal turns, pauses. "Let’s play love". Electronics from the very beginning. Heavy bass, hard breathing, sensuality. "Euphoria" is the heaviest electronic track. Trance, dance, dub. "XXX" is the last one on "Endorphins" and makes it done leaving the listener in a state of endorphin stimulation for long...
