Writing this review I cheer myself that this sacrifice of mine won't go for nothing. If you expect a relatively objective opinion, you'll get it, however, I must underline the word relatively.
I think that Eisbrecher was thought to be something between Rammstein, Unhelig and Gothminister, and modern electro bands. It was to be, but what it has become is another story. Intro is interesting, it creates quite good atmosphere, rouses hopes for something interesting – later, however, all we're given is a pulse of a dying man: declining tendency with some small “hills” on the graph. Throughout the first five songs Eisbrecher try to prove their worth, but it sounds, in my opinion, rather poorly. The only solace is “Angst”, which is so similar to those better songs of Rammstein, that I'm eager to forgive almost vulgar copying of the idea. Except for “Angst” there are three other songs worth hearing. I'm talking about the title track “Eisbrecher”, “ Zeichen der Venus” and “Mein Blut”, if we pull the facts hard in favour of the band.
I'll try to pretend that I don't understand the lyrics, because they are in a foreign, German, language. It is however certain that if I didn't pretend, I could notice the stupidity of majority of them and their absurdity. If I were sarcastic I could have said that even if your ideas are stupid, one should keep up to a certain level. Probably this band assumed that if they are singing in German it'll fit in with this industrial mood, even if you're singing about the Smurfs. Wrong assumption, taken ,of course, from already twice mentioned Rammstein.
I won't write long essays, because what's the point in criticizing the same band on and on. I hope my message is clear. If you don't have to – don't listen to this project. If you understand German – you may do it just for fun. If you want to listen to disco – metal - I suggest going for the original. Except for those songs I've mentioned, which one can listen to more than once, there's really nothing interesting in it.
