I must admit, this is my first encounter with the creation of Elastik, I have not even heard about them before. To acquaint with them made me not so much pigeonholed label "dark ambient electro", but a fact that this creation comes from France. I got in my hands the "Rework" EP, the latest release of the group, which is announcing a full album.
As for 4 tracks, whole is quite varied. At the beginning we get a calm, dark, slightly narcotic sounds even based on synthesizers’ beat with a lazy female vocal. I have a feeling that thanks to that seemingly lazy beat, the track would work on gothic-ambient dance events, you can feel a taste of the city at night.
However, whole is not as quite interesting, the second number, in which Malika takes part does not outstand, but the dark atmosphere was replaced by trip-hop journeys towards Massive Attack. Still it is not a complaint, because it all carries well, and despite the gloomy climate, it is nice in unobtrusive way. In turn, the collaboration with Nexus is already an excursion towards industrial hip-hop, the dark atmosphere of the city at night is perfectly preserved, but rap singing is too much overwhelming. But not for long, however, the last track is instrumental and perfectly refers to the atmosphere. After next hearing I associated it all obviously with the music from Eraldo Bernocchi, because his influences - whether conscious or not - are very legible.
The band of course finds out nothing new, but lightness and that perfectly captured climate of "city at night" does not allow you for a quick set aside. If someone likes night trips in big, sleeping cities – will be happy. I look forward for the full album, because curiosity will not give me peace – whether the band will go in one of marked here paths, or will continue to neatly and easily move between the dark, delicate electronics and oneiric trip-hop...
Because it is only EP - assessment is what it is.
Tracklist.
01 Aporie (feat. Horror 4o4)
02 Cage (feat. Malika)
03 Nexus (feat. Hellby)
04 Vapeur
