Love in Cage is a post-punk/coldwave band based in Rouen, France. In 2008 Love in Cage started to make music. A week ago their singer Ishtmael contacted me and asked me to review their recent album Position.

The album Position consists of six songs. The first, 'Minimal Sound' is the most catchy. Introduced by a classy bassline, it has a neat post-punkish main melody, underlined by some synth elements. The vocals of the singer are reminiscent of Rosetta Stone or And Also the Trees.
'The Double' goes more in the direction of French coldwave, has elements used already by pioneers Norma Loy and Little Nemo. Dark synthesizer tunes are the main carrier for this song.
The following track, 'The Trees', is slower, yet still in the coldwave mood. To the English lyrics also some French ones are added.
'Tonight' has a nice synth melody, but is compared to the other five songs the weakest on the album (still not bad).
The title-track, 'Position', goes into a different direction than the others. The song is entirely sung in French, and is carried by a synth loop, which would be more typical for genres like EBM or minimal wave. It has a similar feeling to Ruth's classic song 'Polaroid/Roman/Photo'.
The last piece, 'Touch', the album returns to the coldwave atmosphere and is more experimental than the others.

Love in Cage provide a promising fresh sound to the ageing coldwave genre. I personally like their use of synthesizers and samples and the dark atmosphere they are able to generate with that.
