Dirk Turisch, founder of Angel Dust and vocalist, finally returns after a 10 years break with his Mercury Tide band, which started as a project and grew into a full-fledged group. New album "Killing Saw" is a natural following of the last Dirk’s release titled "Why".
But listening to this album, you may have the impression that it is like "reheated pork in a snack bar". And it is like that, because this work does not bring much to the canon of metal music.
Dirk Turisch closed the Angel Dust chapter once and for all. After several unsuccessful attempts to resurrect Angel Dust, Dirk became convinced that he wants to start creating Mercury Tide on a large scale. Contrary to the debut from 2003, Dirk and his band with drummer and producer Sim Reaper, put emphasis on a more traditional sound, which to some extent deprived them from opportunity to do something more innovative.
It does not mean, however, the release is not recorded well. Quite contrary. Technically everything is played and sung correctly. "Killing Saw" album, is characterized by a combination of sublime melodies with even cheerful riffs. Opening record and at the same time title one "Killing Saw" is an introduction to landscapes painted by sounds. "Home" track is an expression of clear and expressive speech, because Dirk is filled with joy, due to his comeback on the metal scene. He does not conceal, the fact he enjoys perspective of meeting with old fans, but also hopes to gain new followers. "Searching" song, stands out clearly from the rest of tracks. Smooth riffs, coherent melodic line and Dirk in a good vocal shape.
Subsequent tracks, proof that group demonstrated ability in composing songs.
Somewhat dark and melancholic tracks, titled "World of Pain", "Lord of Memories", or "Out of the Darkness", reminiscent classics of NWBHM. Because, although band did not create something innovative, they are for many listeners the icon of metal music.
"Killing Saw" release, was recorded and mixed in CKB Recording Studio by drummer and producer Carsten Rehmann (Japanische Kampfórspiele Kreator Harasai). Eroc (Matt Roehr, Mystic Prophecy, Firewind) took credit for mastering "Killing Saw".
