A long time I wondered if I like this album, I tried to ask myself what feelings it calls in me. After the seventh listening I still don't know. This album is simply, without crazy, strong emotions, it just has its small place somewhere in the world discography.
What group I'm talking about? Phase, consisting of: Vasilis Liapis (guitars, keyboards), Marios Papakostas (drums), Damianos Harharidis (bass, synthesizers), Thanos Grigoriou (vocals). This formation was established in 2003 in Larissa (Greece).
In Consequence album, released in 2010, contains ten arrangement combining such genres as alternative rock, progressive rock, psychedelic rock, that is, as it can be easily noticed: quite interesting sounds that are easily confused (not just by listeners).
Group is musically compared to Anathema (I feel indignant as I can!), Porcupine Tree and Alice in Chains. For me, however, Phase is nothing like any of the groups. They are, however, a copy of Amplifier, what can be heard in almost every song, especially in Static, which matches atmospheric songs from The Octopus album of the aforementioned group. At times, when I forgot that it's Phase I thought "oh no Amplifier again!".
Listening to individual tracks, project may seem interesting. What speaks in favour of the is the pieces of Greek folk music, which at times allow us to break away from our boring reality. However, these are only moments punctuated with the endings of one songs and restarting of some strangely twisted tracks.
This is one of those albums that are interesting, but not entirely, not to be listened all at once. The whole is shallow, asexual and in a way so... sloppy.
Do I recommend anything from this album? A void and basically that's it...
I rate In Consequence at 50%. Minus for boredom, genre exaggeration (I never thought it possible to exaggerate progressive rock), for striking copy of Amplifier and that the snippets of traditional Greek music were - just - too short.
Tracklist:
01. Inside (Intro)
02. The Smile
03. Perdition
04. Transcendence
05. Ibidem
06. Evening On My Dark Hillside
07. Hypoxia
08. A Void
09. Static
10. Next Illusion To Fade
