World performers of borderline genres associated with dark electro music managed to get us used to repetition of their subsequent editions, being unable to rise above, what was already said in that field by other artists. Admirers of hard electronics reconciled in some kind of an exhaustion with the topic, seeking in new projects not so much as fresh solutions, as efficient and ingenious composition of these well-known. He knew it all, Sandro V., the founder of the one-man project Plasmodivm, releasing his debut album four years ago, Paradise Under Fire. And happily he did not forget about it, recording another album: The Post-Modern Prometheus.
It is extremely hard to mention individual tracks in this case – the album uniqueness lies primarily in its compactness and continuity. It is a real musical landscape, and its consisting elements keep close to a compatible, quite high level. Successive pieces form a range of surprises for those, who are accustomed to Plasmodivm’s sound. While Sandro does not give up completely on pulsating beats and aggressively sharpen vocal, he clearly inclines towards milder electronics, saturated with themes from the legendary horror movies. Movie’s samples perfectly fit with the clean vocal track. The Post-Modern Prometheus in such pieces as the opening I Have Killed A Man or Dead Inside, greatly balances between melody and clarity, between gentleness and industrial severity. Sandro experiments with electronic music patterns, deconstructing them and freely juxtaposing its elements, creating a modern compositions, also with unique sound, as evidenced by the phenomenal Voices and sung in Spanish Via Negativa (would anyone doubt today, this language adds independent projects the desired spice?). Sandro is achieving gradually harmony in sound, and its foretaste is in piece Post-Modern – Post-Human - there is no room for mistakes, the tradition is blended there in the framework of new trends in dark electronics. However, the essence of the project can be boldly defined by the closing track of record Requiem-an ambiguous one, which thanks to almost children delicacy combined with industrial terror is able to satisfy even the most demanding fans of the genre.
The Post-Modern Prometheus is a project well planned and, most importantly, authentic. Sandro does not blur the traces of his musical influences. He duplicates themes, but he does not copy both their schemes and sequences. Using experience from the most respected (VAC,: wumpscut:, Hocico, et cetera...), paradoxically he constructs something unique, very own. Plasmodivm is showing the way for a new path in the midst of the trodden ones, deftly dodging from artificiality and cheapness. Sandro V. is aware of that - name of the album is not a philosophical provocation, it is an idea. It is not a perfect record - sometimes it does not properly maintain the voltage, and supporters of heavier, glaring beats may be unsatisfied. Either way – it is an absolute must-have, especially for those, who are just beginning their musical adventure with dark electro.
