Project Rotten was found in July 2009 by Fredrik Croon (also known from Menschdefekt), due to an urge to set up his own, solo project. Since 2010 it has been a duo consisting of Fredrik and Kettil.
Their debut album "The Freakshow" commences with a truly energetic, titled piece - "The Freakshow" which offers a decent melody and a strong structure of beats, playing the main role in the track. Vocals, however, appear to be slightly over-combined - a similar situation occured on their previous, self-released EP "Bleed You Dry", yet in this case the overall process of production has been apparently ameliorated; the duo slowly starts to create its very own brand.
Your attention is indubitably captured by the agreeable atmosphere of the tracks, just like in case of "Left it to Die" or "The Lust to Kill". Even though at first they may seem to be just simple compositions, devoid of intracacies, the melodics are definitely catchy and the whole slightly reminds me about the earlier records of God Module, which makes by all means a positive comparision. All fans of heavier EBM, who fancy the sound of disturbing vocals in the foreground, intense beats and catchy melodies will find something appealing on this album.
