V2A - Machine Corps
Recently the third release of V2A has come out. The band, set up in 2002, is a British-German project with Kevin Steward and Ines Lehmann being its members. The group has gained some popularity thanks to a peculiar mix of EBM, Cyber Electro and Industrial.
However, in my opinion the last record is rather... mediocre. It’s good to get you on a dance floor, it’s great for dancing and I think it stands a good chance to impress clubbers.
For those who don’t consider themselves party monsters and expect more from music than just hard and fast beat, the album will probably appear to be shallow and dull. It won’t provide too many emotions. It lacks a deeper message that would sate you mentally or emotionally. "Machine Corps" is a terrific means for easy entertainment, just like a low-budget zombie movie – despite its shortcomings - it still amuses. And that’s what it’s all about. The record has its shortcomings too: Kevin’s flat voice being a good example. Distorted and replete with electronics, it reminds of Cher’s voice on her "Believe" album.
One definite advantage of the album is that is quickly grabs the ear. It’s easy to listen, and not too gloomy, which may let a wider audience get attracted with it, not only fans of Dark Independent music.
Overall, the disc isn’t brilliant but still it can give lots of pleasure, especially to party-goers.
