Wumpscut is a band that needs no introduction to decent industrial metal and EBM fans. "Bunkertor 7" came out four years after Rudy Ratzinger's debut album. Exactly in this recording he clearly outlines the direction his music will take henceforth. Hereby I like to present return to the early W.
Thudding bass, distortions, immeasurable number of samples and variations on keys produce a powerful mixture of Bunkertor 7. Furthermore, some diversions are introduced and by no means short ones. Torn Skin for instance, on grounds of his mid-tempo sound departs from Rudy's musical canon. Additional departure from standards comes with fairly melancholic "Die in Winter", to such a degree experimental track that I am tempted to call it a ballad... ''Mortal Highway" is quite joyous and energetic, no doubt it's one of the heavier industrial metal tracks on this album. On the other hand "Thorns" is a tune in which electronics suprisingly interlace with background acoustic guitar.
Each of the following songs gets calmer than the previous one and this might be the reason why ''Bunkertor 7'' becomes so recommendable. Most of the tracks are noticeable and the vocals sometimes give impression of "immortal" Marylin Manson. By the way, nice and moody videoclip for the title track is available. "Tell Me Why" makes a melodic and suitable ending to Ratzinger's decent album.
Although I have absolutely no complaints about Bukertor 7, I would hardly place it next to the best albums on the shelf.
However I won't absolve nobody from getting acquainted with it.
