PsioniC - Self Revelation EP
PsioniC is a trio from Graz, Austria, consisting of Psi-001, Funker 101 and Bernhard P. Soon their album Alteration will be released. Prior to this the trio got positively acclaimed by the critics for their single 'Self Revelation', appearing on the board of several alternative/underground charts on the internet.
The Self Revelation EP contains the original mix of 'Self Revelation', followed by four remixes of the title track, the song 'This Is What We Are', as well as the instrumental version of the track 'The Pilgrimage'.
'Self Revelation' reveals already at the beginning that the hellectro-pioneers Grendel might have had some influence on PsioniC. Indeed, the track reminds of Grendel's Harsh Generation. The vocals of PsioniC are also harsh ("black-metalish"), but sound a lot better than those by Grendel (also because they are more easily understandable).
The single is part of a concept album with a post-apocalyptic theme, and the lyrics – as explained on the official PsioniC-Facebook-page – leave a big space for interpretation, so that everyone is given the chance to identify with them.
The tracks 2 to 5 are the 'Self Revelation'-remixes by Nachtmahr, Powerbeat, Freakangel and Shiv-R. My favourite is here the 'synthie' one by Powerbeat.
Less aggrotech, but in a more epic-futuristic (and still harsh) costume comes the song 'This Is What We Are'. "We are not like them, living our lives our own way, don't want to do, what the others say", is the manifesto of this track.
The instrumental 'The Pilgrimage' is a nice danceable final song for this EP.
All in all, what I've heard so far by PsioniC sounds promising and I am looking forward reviewing their upcoming album Alteration.
