"So I sent my three bloodhounds; theys a comin to hunt you down."

Maybe this statement will sound a little funny, but there is some potential in country music. Well, I don’t write about mainstream country, which in United States is as popular as disco-polo in Poland. I rather think about this conglomerate of styles and genres which is hard to classify clear and sometimes is labeled as alternative country. In other times reappear as Americana, Southern Gothic, or just as Folk. In this kind of music we can find references and elements from all those genres which had influence on music beyond the ocean, which are: traditional country, bluegrass, rhythm&blues, gospel music and even punk. And all this elements come seasons additionally with dark sauce of gothabilly – lyrics which are dark, bloody, insane, and weird. Do you remember Nick Cave and his Murder Ballads, to get you familiar with that style? Or maybe do you know compositions of Legendary Shack Shakers or Goddamn Gallows?
In this stream create artists from Slim Cessna’s Auto Club. The band, which origins from Denver (Colorado), has been on the stage since more than twenty years now. They have been playing in their career with such artists as John Cash, Violent Femmes, and Dresden Dolls. In May 2013, they also played concert in Warsaw, so far their only show in Poland. The band performs actually as six-person crew. Except guitar and drums musicians also use upright bass, pedal steel, banjos, and piano. It is also worth to mention singers of SCAS – Slim Cessna and Jay Munly form interesting duo of opposites, who alternately complements or confronts one another.
Album SCAC 102: An Introduction For Young And Old Europe is ninth album of Slim Cessna's Auto Club, released an while ago, cause in 2013. Album consists of tracks from previous albums of the band, although five of them (This is How We Do Things in the Country, Mark of Vaccination, 32 Mouths Gone Dry, Cranston and He, Roger Williams) were newly recorded. There are fifteen songs and almost eighty minutes of good music in total. There is also DVD attached with the concert video from Lion’s Liar club in Denver, which was recorded in 2012.
An album which is review of the best songs of the group consists of all that what is SCAC music made of. So the album opens country style This Is How We Do Things In The Country. Then, we have blues song Cold Cold Eyes, and a little bit further Children Of The Lord which is mix of country and gospel. Just after that there is swinging track Pine Box. Interesting track is also Jesus Christ for which the best description I could found is – gospel waltz with yodeling elements.  Also worth to notice is That Fierce Cow Is Common Sense In A Country Dress, song that oscillates between country and fast circus "umcy-umcy" in 2/4 meter, interrupted with melorecitations of both singers and filled with band chorus. I also liked Three Bloodhounds, Two Shepherds, One Fila Brasilia – lively country ballad.  The opening quote is taken from it.

To sum up, SCAC 102: An Introduction For Young And Old Europe is the album that will not be admired by all. There is no electronic, synthesizers, nor stertorous voices here. Even in the stream of alternative country the Goddamns Gallows seems to play darker, the Legendary Shack Shakers more punk, and Jay Munly itself in his side projects seems to be more oneiric and mystic. However An Introduction For Young And Old Europe is exactly what is meant to be – perfect and overview introduction to southern gothic music. So if you don’t know SCAC yet, and you would like to try something new and odd – so unleash beasts and send bloodhounds to hunt…
