At the beginning I must admit that I've never heard about the man called Konikiewicz. I know – shame on me. But I guess that many of you don't know who he is either; that is why I decided to recall some facts of Mr. Wojciech's output.
It must be noted at the very start that he is all-embracing artist. He is a composer, pianist, music animator as well as a philosopher and arts' theoretic. During his entire career he released about 30 albums. He co-operated with musicians all around the world. He composes, among many others, jazz, movie and theatrical music. Some people may recall him from working with such artists like Ciechowski, Budzyński, Janerka and Asian Dub Foundation. That's about the introduction.
"My Room 101" is another album under his guidance but the first I had the opportunity to listen to. Together with two other musicians he created original album with futuristic look at broadly understood electronic music. From the point of view of music the album varies. We go from electro, jazz, rock through drum'n'base to ethnic rhythms from the borderland of chill out. It is leisure and uncommon attitude toward music full of expression and originality.
I don't say that Konikiewicz's music is nice and easy. It demands a bit of concentration from the listener to discover the interesting and valuable. But I think that every keen person will find in it something worth listening and let this crazy mixture of sounds take him for a spin. The song beginning and ending album – "Trooyka" is a gem for me and it introduces listener to trans climate of the album. The song also has its video clip. Other compositions that wouldn't let me go were "Hacjenda" and "Neo's Steps" which I truly recommend. "My Room 101" is the album for people open to new music experiences, not only for jazz lovers.
At the end I would like to add that album was released on 30th April 2007 by Kontrabanda label (and is of course to be bought in good music shops).
