If I were to point a single component which draws attention while listening to Deied’s production, it would definitely be the mad rhythm section in some of the tracks. Adding some aggressive guitars would equal in having a nice Industrial Metal tune. However, as that is not the case, all that’s left to do is to raise an eyebrow as an expression of slight astonishment and treat it as another embellishment of the band’s music. Music which seems to be inspired by the 80s and early 90s (‘A Shell Full of Scars’ reminds me of Coil). Although not quite into this kind of stuff myself, I tried my best to find something of interest in this particular album and I must admit I did succeed. The electronics on ‘Tales of Sodenliah’ is not half bad, especially those in the already mentioned ‘A Shell Full of Scars’ (along with the drumming, of course). For some, the general mood of the album can be considered another advantage, as it is quite grim. This, of course, shouldn’t come as a surprise considering the background story of the soundscapes revolving around a single man’s quest for answers to the society’s problems. Usually such efforts are not a pleasant experience and ‘Tales of Sodenliah’ does not try to make it different. The album seems to be a small manifesto calling to the listener (and not only, I suppose) ‘Do not go down this road!’. If you’re willing to go deeper into the lyrics (which, by the way, are once sung, once screeched) will surely find some food for thought.

In the end, the latest album of Deied duo is a fine piece of music, and if only it did not fall into my hands it would receive some more praise, which I think serves as enough encouragement for the potentially interested.
