"Eccentric - contrary to generally accepted principles, quirky, original, eccentric" (Dictionary of Polish language, published by IBIS, 2010) A simple, short and concise definition, which in principle could be used for the full review of Echoes Of Yul record... This is one of the strangest albums, that I have listened. However, in this case it is not the greatest problem. For no treasures I am not able to say what this 'strangeness' is... Maybe it is the fact, that material contained on "Cold Ground" sometimes can not be called music? They are like rapid, individual sounds, which combined together put the listener in amazement and because of the lack of continuity in tracks such as "Numbers" create feeling of being lost... Maybe because of the lack of typical vocals and noises in the background? On the record there is no singing in the basic sense of that word. The artist sometimes reaches for the female and male voices appearing in the background, sometimes enlightening the listener in a very eloquent way ("Future? You murdered the future!" in "Haunebu"). That voices that are also often modified, give the tracks such as the title one and "Foundations" pace and atmosphere. Even some sounds, like a tapping of high heels on the floor, or (this sound like a roar of the jet taking off as everyone can name it deliberately) make each of the tracks like an another sound collage... And it is in "Cold Ground" the most beautiful - simply you can not assign that album to any genre of music - once EOY is close to post black metal in the style of Cold Body Radiation, sometimes cold wave stylistics, ambient, and sometimes even to the noise...
I strongly recommend the album, yet monotony is after all so boring!
