Poesie Noire previous release was issued in the early 90's. Many things has changed in the music since that time, but what this band plays is fortunately unchanged. The voice of Marianne Valvekens that attracted attention to the work of this group in the 80s, is still a recognizable feature and a strong point in group achievements.
There are not so many formations which in spite of being outside the mainstream of electronic music, after such a long period of silence would be able to record such an album. Their latest release "Sense Of Purpose" is a very dense record, both musically and as it comes to vocals. This album shows that, despite such a long absence, the members of Poesie Noire are well aware of the prevailing trends and continue to use them skillfully, while by no means treating to them. The artists can sometimes in surprising way draw what they are interested in from a particular genre and transform it so, as to give the created sounds its peculiar character. Therefore the content of this release is a nice load of pop-romantic energy contained in the sound of the group, accompanied by a gentle female vocals, sometimes singing deep thought lyrics, and in the meantime cultivating a kind of game with the listener, as in the air you can capture the sad, nihilistic thoughts.
Poesie Noire serves a great and also a surprising return after a long absence – it is why with more pleasure you can spare a moment and listen to this unique blend of music, with a little trance, sometimes drum & bass color. It is a really good album that proves that being resistant to mass served plastic music, is more than digest to your ears and simply the audience may like it. Because cheerful sounds and dancing, driving rhythms, with even joyful tunes combined with melancholy vocals gives a really interesting effect.
