Tons of debris on your head, green, fluorescent blood flowing through your veins at full speed and floor crushed by your jaw that dropped after hearing the new album of this Russian band – these are only some of the effects you can expect while listening to the album. But maybe, let’s start from the very beginning…
Recently Deseased is a project created by Stanislav Zak and Stanislav Maksimenko. Their discography consists of 2 albums – Barren Inc. and Cellardoor and they are mostly famous for their cooperation with Rudi Ratzinger (they made some remix versions of Wumpscut: “Schabiger Lump”, “Churist Churist” or “Jesus Antichristus”).
What were my first impressions after hearing Cellardoor? Well, for me it sounds like a Russian version of Skinny Puppy. And indeed, “Stitch Witch” is really similar to Skinny Puppy in terms of characteristic melodic line and vocals. But in fact, it is not a plagiarism, because the guys from Recently Deceased worked out their own style, creating at the same time a remarkable mix of music.
Cellardoor takes us on a post-apocalyptic music trip through the mysterious recesses of the soul, it ‘trickles’ our ears with refined music samples, gloomy loops and beats that tread into the ground. The CD creates some kind of cyberpunk atmosphere and the album is a gem among all the other CDs on the market, which are becoming more and more similar to one another.
The CD is a medley of dark electro (with some breakbeat features) and characteristic, charismatic vocals of Maksimenko – inspired partly by Skinny Puppy, Laibach and Massive Attack. And all this is put on an asbestos plate, in a restaurant that is six feet under the ground. As an aperitif – a glass of excellent, radioactive acid.
Enjoy!
