Silence & Strength is a one-man project created by Israeli – Stephen Friedman. “ Opus Paracelsum” is his second full album. The record is dedicated to a brilliant Swiss physicist of Renaissance period – Paracelsus. Paracelsus was not only the man of empirical, physical science. He was also interested in astrology, alchemy and occultism, he was a philosopher and a physician. Album Silence & Strength is dedicated to him, but it's not a kind of paean in praise of him. It rather points to those things, which fascinated Paracelsus. All those inexplicable lions of the world, which are outside of any of the scientific concepts. And the music of Silence & Strength is similar. Ambient for insiders. Rich with the impressions of rarities of this earthly vale. Richness manifests also in the number of words in the titles of songs on the record... Album begins with almost ten-minute long composition, which by means of its mood ( and with the length of the title) brings to one's mind the composition of the psychedelic guitar fathers, from the “ Ummagumma” album. I'm talking, of course, about “Several Species Of Small Furry Animals Gathered Together In A Cave And Grooving With A Pict”... On “ Opus Paracelsum” experiment goes after experiment... The alchemy of sounds is very specific. In the fourth track one can find some kind of human voices.....? ( Are they children?) Or rather devilish....? Or maybe that kind of sounds were made by those, who were treated by Paracelsus... Secret musical spaces of Silence & Strength will enchant those who feel that there is too little sounds around them and who want to know them all. „Opus Paracelsum” opens the gate to different, not only sonic, realities...
