September 13th in Warsaw Proxima played Wovenhand. At the beginning the concert had been planned on Saturday, 30th June. Though a term was moved to the middle of the week the club was full of fans dedicated to this American project.

Charismatic David Eugene Edwards, vocalist of legendary 16 Horsepower, created together with musicians amazing atmosphere by using alt-country sounds, rock with folk intrusions. Wovenhand is energetic and sultry music at the same time - perfect for rainy autumn evening. Mysterious, magic music and charismatic voice transmitting spiritual lyrics dealing with God, but in the unpretentious way, are creating special wholeness.

The tour during which a band visited Polish fans is promoting new album: The Laughing Stalk. That’s why majority of the tracks originated from it. There were of course such hits like Dirty Blue, sang by the fans moving in front of the stage to the rhytmic sounds. Personally I counted on the beautiful track Sparrow falls. Edwards was creating specific atmosphere by playing on the banjo e.g. on Kingdom of Ice. Sometimes you could hear hooves of wild horses, ritual Indian songs or whisper of the wind. You wanted to close your eyes and then you were broken out from the trance by the massive, energetic guitar sound. Musicians were changing their instruments - different kinds of guitars and drums could be seen on stage - and David looked like captured in the different dimension. He didn’t notice the audience and was experiencing performance as personal sensation. Eyes were looking from under the brim of the hat to the distant point at the horizon and the musician was gesturing, telling stories, singing calmly just to shout in the next minute. All of this interspersed with shamanic whispers.

The concert lasted for almost two hours. In the spotlight you could see beads of sweat that shedding of the musicians. Instead of fatigue after the long performance they played two more songs as an encore. Later they didn’t appear again although fans were waiting in front of the stage until technics started to collect the equipment. Besides little problems like couplings or sound system squeaks the concert was successful and exceptionally moody, leaving behind defficiency of performances.
