"Cat of Nine Tales" is the debut album of an artist from California - Austin Galante. He is known mainly from The Warped Tour, and to the admirers of 30 Seconds to Mars, whose concerts he opened.
This album consists of 9 pieces produced in a trip hop style. For a long time entering this path meant making and playing what has been already produced for example by Massive Attack. However, Austin Galante surprises, presenting very different approach to this genre.
On his first release, the artist shows the well-known topics of being in love, being in a relationship and all the related desires in a new way. Instead of overpowering sweet he serves a sour observation of reality, enriched by the study of a fine, mature irony.
Creation of this album is prevailed with an intriguing concept - namely, it consists of 9 pieces, which apparently are quite diverse. But by a closer listening, however, it turns out that they all have their own specific characteristics, which are mutually interwoven into a coherent whole. And all is fastened by a buckle of an intense atmosphere.
Beginning with the first track - "Walked Into The Room", listeners are treated with an unconventional story about the beginning of the nascent feelings, and subsequent pieces of the story leads up to its agony.
The opening song is a study of strong emotions that are associated with awakening to life a certain feeling in a violent manner. It is the introduction, where without unnecessary sounds and words it is presented the very beginning of the story - starting point here is the first look.
In the second piece appears dark desire, which is an announcement of next spiritual challenges. "Sturdy Crush" in a flexible way becomes "You're Perfect". It is about the process of discovering a perfection in the chosen one, which is gradually evolving towards a deeper emotional outbursts. And so begins "Permanently In My Thoughts", that deals with obsessiveness of the feelings. Unfortunately, shortly after it comes the announcement of the impending drama in the form of "I'll Know Tomorrow". One look, a contribution which may result in so many unexpected consequences, surprising in the end in an amplitude of violent emotion.
"Punching A Hole In Me" is like a bit suspended in a void, as if in anticipation of the next stage of emotional twists and turns. But the next song does not leave any illusions. In "Bloody Kisses and Cuddles" there is only one perspective, very dark and charged with a negative energy - everything went wrong, there is no turning back. "Losing You" demonstrates the dilemma between the fading embers of passion and a desperate attempt to reverse this process. There is no longer hope for a wonderful change of fate. The agonizing verses harmonize with the music that pulsates in the background.
The last track - "Even Laughing Hurts" is a thoughtful result of preceding tracks. It describes everything that is "after". Combining the characteristic motifs of his predecessors, and at the same time it highlights them, thereby reinforcing their message.
This is an interesting and intriguing album, in which the creator in a good style breathed a new life into the already rather hackneyed and somewhat forgotten genre. Additionally, this album can captivate simultaneously with the sound juiciness. And in a way, addict too.
The artist is experimenting and he is not afraid to push the designated boundaries, dosing at appropriate times both dubstep as long as individual rock pieces too. The record is polished; strongly noticeable is the fact that there was nothing left to a chance.
Sensual, dark – that’s the "Cat of Nine Tales".
