By combining post-punk and electronic dance music, New Order became one of the most critically acclaimed and influential bands of the 80’s. Rising from the ashes of the legendary British post-punk unit Joy Division, the enigmatic New Order triumphed over tragedy to emerge as one of the most influential ones.
Embracing disco rhythms and electronic textures of the underground club culture many years in advance of its contemporaries, the group's pioneering fusion of new wave aesthetics and dance music successfully bridged the gap between the two worlds, creating a distinctively thoughtful and oblique brand of synth pop appealing equally to the mind, body, and soul.
Though their early years were shadowed by legacy and sound of Joy Division, the band incorporated elements of dance music. "Blue Monday" - the hit from 1983, 12-inch single of all time, shows how band’s sound has transformed. Another great hit is “True Faith” coming from 1987, which 1994’ version once again hit the worldwide charts.
New Order always were concentrating on music and with their minimalist album sleeves, which present the attitude to everything, even the aversion to including singles as album tracks.
In 1993 the group worked on their own individual projects and then reunited in 1998. In 2001 Cunningham replaced Gilbert. In 2007 Peter Hook left the band and Bernard, Phil with Steve worked on Bad Lieutenant.
New Order reunited once again in 2011 without Hook, with Gilbert's return and Chapman replacing Hook on bass. During the band's career and in between lengthy breaks, group members were involved in several solo projects, such as Sumner's Electronic and Bad Lieutenant; Hook's Monaco and Revenge and Gilbert and Morris' The Other Two.
New album entitled “Music Complete” is released on 25 September 2015 by Mute Records.
