The debut of Luxury Stranger

LUXURY STRANGER is a band from Nottingham, England, that could well be described as typically British: Musically, they continue the tradition of post punk and new wave. Influences like Joy Division, The Cure and The Chameleons can be recognized easily.

In accordance with the general mood of their songs, the debut album by LUXURY STRANGER is called “Desolation”. However, the Brits do not appear weary or languid at all. Simon York’s vocals as well as the overall sound are full of raw energy. LUXURY STRANGER revel in the dark and gain power out of it. They describe their own songs as follows: “Perverse, passionate and dark lyrics matched with desperate, agonisingly powerful music.”

Inspiration does not only come from British icons in music. Singer and songwriter Simon York himself coined the phrase “Dickensian Mod” to describe his own style – referring to the often gloomy, sometimes mysterious world in the novels of Charles Dickens. Other Anglo-American authors with a tendency towards dark visions serve as sources of inspiration, too, like George Orwell or Philip K. Dick.

LUXURY STRANGER are currently building up a fanbase around the globe. Recently, even the BBC featured an interview with the newcomers on their website. The debut album “Desolation” is now available for download worldwide through MajorDigital. For pre-listening, visit www.myspace.com/luxurystranger. Meanwhile, the band is already working on new material and preparing for their eagerly awaited live shows.
