Everyone familiar with Renee Cooper-Komor’s output as well as that of Zombie Girl, got used to strong electro-industrial music. Getting down to listening to the new CD (new for me of course) with a “sweet” title “Blood, Brain, Rock`n`Roll”, I was prepared for a strong beat.
The first and the title piece embarrassed me a little. The CD supposedly is strong and industrial, but in the background we can hear guitars. I don’t feel any kind of dislike for this instrument, however, mixing electronic music with guitar sounds is an ambitious task and not an easy one to manage. Anyway, I took my medicine like a man. I can’t stand listening to the next song too. I wonder what happened to this band. It seems to me that this track is very similar to Marilyn Manson’s new achievements, but here it didn’t do the band much good. However, catchy melody and nice vocals make it a would-be hit in such radio stations which deal with metal as well as industrial music. Next pieces, together with track no.3 - “ Creature of night” and the fifth song which is similar to Björk’s trip-hop, also don’t appeal to me.
I think, that further songs are a little bit better but they don’t bring me to my knees either… and the only song worthy of my attention is “Prey”.
To sum up, it only remains for me to soften a bit my negative review. The album seen from the angle of previous Cooper’s achievements is really bad – it’s rather rock ‘n’ roll electro and not electro-industrial music, but in fact, that were the announcements… although I expected something a little bit different. Still, I came to a conclusion that, when treated with reserve, the album is melodious, consistent and full of would-be hits. Although deprived of the sparkle, it is a kind of Psychobilly-like horror-comedy, for those who agree to compromise.
