"10.000 Watts Of Artificial Pleasures" is a debut EP of the Italian quartet Dope Stars Inc. It includes 6 premiere tracks. At the moment it's hard not to compare the EP to the previous album of the band that was released quite recently. Well, the new publishing is slightly worse than the last one, but still it's very good. You should pay particular attention to the fact that the tracks that are included on the EP (with one exception "Shock To The System")are re-recorded on Neuromace, however, because the style of the band has changed since the album's release they sound completely different. The first DSI's steps were a bit unsteady: the musicians couldn't make up their minds as to the amount of electronics they should include in their tracks. That is the reason why the keyboards are not expansive and the drum machine sounds more like a classical drums than electronic beats. Still, the CD sounds nice, it seems to be more of a punk style. From the beginning of their career Dope Stars have played the music that was simply new and original, very danceable and energetic. However, the EP has some disadvantages which probably result from the lack of certain decisiveness that I mentioned before. The greatest of them is lack of clarity both in vocals and keyboards. Oversteered guitars do not surprise anyone however the vocal let through this guitar oversteer (this is at least how it sounds in my opinion) sounds worse than it could. The same story is with the keyboard whose part includes “noise”. The advantage is nicely sensed bass line causing pleasant trembling. Generally speaking, the choice of the sound quality makes the tracks seem recorded on the poor equipment rather than including any purposeful effects. Still, it doesn't change the fact that "10.000 Watts Of Artificial Pleasures" is a good start of a great band. All the same, I recommend to listen to the album “Neuromance” first and only then to take for the EP.
