The name of the band comes from Egyptian mythology in which Nun is a primal god. The snake god Nun was the personification of the swampy water chaos (called Nun) from which the world emerged. From it came four couples of serpents and frogs who represented - water, infinite time, darkness and void. The name of the band reflects not only fascination with ancient Egypt but also the attitude of the band trying to search for new directions in music being inspired by the classical forms. The band consists of Magdalena Kaspryszyn (vocal, lyrics, songwriting, keyboards) and Olaf Karbowiak (programing, sampling, keyboards, songwriting). They are an energeticly developing electroclash band. In the interview they are telling us about their beginnings, plans for the future and the new album which is going to be released soon.

Sylwia: Let`s start with a conventional question. How was NUN created? tell me about the cicumstances under which you met.

Olaf: We`d met a long time before we started playing together. It was only when we both started a cooperation with a band from Wroclaw that we firts sang and played toghther. I intended to continue my musical activity which had been stopped for a while after graduating form High School. Magda went to a rehearsal with me and this is how she became a singer in this one and some more rock bands which preceded NUN. I played drums in them. We worked with different people and under different names for the whole time of studying at University. We mainly aimed at guitar music combining New Wave and Brit Pop succeeding on different competitions and festivals for young artists.

Sylwia: So how did you start playing electro?

Olaf: That`s a good question :) In 2000 our last band fell apart and we were thrown away from The Town`s Musical Club where we had been rehearsing. We decided to continue our musical experiment as a duo using a PC, which had already been used by us as an additional tool. In the beginning it was electronic music which shape was dictated by external conditions so it souned like trip hop evoluating into strange house music. Later we started creating what we really intended to play all the time - basing on the 80`s and new romantic and all the early electro pop and new wave bands (Gary Numan, New Order, Joy Division,
Sisters Of Mercy, Visage, Human League, Kraftwerk, Depeche Mode, Erasure).
It was later developed into fascination with electroclash and electrohouse, which were so popular on Viva and MTV (Tok Tok vs Soffy O., Northern Lite, dj Hell, Felix da Housecat, Miss Kittin, Fisherspooner, Planet Funk, Roger Sanchez, Ladytron).

Sylwia: How doeas the work on your latest album look like? Where do you create it - at home, in a studio? What can you tell our readers about this album?

Olaf: Our debut album has been created for a long time and with some breaks. The first songs were  "Stop!" and  "I Don`t Know How". Later came the next ones. While working on the album we were still learning new things and completing our equipment. The album was created in our home studio and we did everything ourselves starting with composing the songs, recording the vocals and programming everything. We didn`t use a pro studio simply because in the places we had tried  noone had no idea about the kind of music we intended to create and especially how to mix the tracks so that they sounded similarly to European productions.  The technical level and the mastering of the record is in very good hands of both our french producer, Peter Rainman from People Theatre and Oli
vier Thiede from the German Clear Of Junk.

Sylwia: What will the material include?

Magda: The record will be filled with light, melodic electo pop songs icluding some heavier but danceable electroclsh tracks. It will be directed towards all the club, dance but also alternative music fans, because the music joins and mixes all those genres together creating a new quality. The sigles will consit of many interesting remixes by diffrent artists representing the electro scene who have managed to present our songs in various styles of modern dance electronic music.

Sylwia: When can we expect to hear the outcome of your work?

Olaf: Our debut album called "This is Electro Pop" will probably appear in early April but on 1 March we`re releasing our first single "Hope". Both will be released by our Swedish label Substream. The conditions of liceneces to other countries beyond Sweden are not certain yet and that`s why we cannot state for sure what the dates of releases in different countries will be. However, we`re certain right now that the first countries which citizens will able to buy our album will be Germany and the USA. These are the two countries ( apart from Sweden of course ) where the most of our fans come from so we couldn`t let them down. However, it doesn`t mean that we`ll dissapoint our listeners from other countries such as France, Portugal, Mexico or Canada where we`re also very well received. It will simply take a bit more time.

Sylwia: What is the message you`d like to give to your listeners on this album?

Magda: We`re no message band. We don`t want to teach, convert, moralise or scare anyone. Both our music and the texts are directed towards people who feel like some reflection but are not interested in getting down and reconsidering their failures all the time. So the general message could be: Remember the past but live the present day life. Many people claim that our music helps them to relax or even think more positively so maybe it works. Anyway, if so, it`s nothing in purpose. It`s rather our way of thinking that was reflected in the musical-lyrical sphere. It`s a natural process for every author, who puts a little bit of himself into each thing he or she creates. Therefore, it`s a message concerning our own attitude towards life and people rather than the one that would be inteded to impose something on the listeners. Besides, when the creation leaves the author it belongs to the receiver in a way, because it`s him who will put some individual meaning into the sounds and words he listens to. This way the songs gain the second meaning and it`s beautiful even if it`s different from the one that the author intended.

Sylwia: Any New Year`s resolotion?

Olaf: Well, we have decided to play only well organised gigs, because only with good conditions and a serious attitude of the orgainzers
we can expect to give a really good performance. We`d like to avoid some traumatic situations from the past when we had to play on a very bad equipment and having little support from the organizers
so we were angry and hardly hearable and the audience was confused. This is a definite New year`s resolution.
Magda : And each and every year we promisse ourselves that we`ll work less and relax more but I guess this resolution will have to be delayed for the nex year again. It doesn`t look like we`ll be less busy this year and that`s why it`s wonderful that it`s the job we love.
