According to the achievements of Miss Kittin and The Hacker, "Underground" of Krystal System duo falls much better. That debut album from the Paris formation is a great surprise. Although the compilation of post-punk electronic sounds combined with a strong electronic beat and heavy, metal guitars may seem hackneyed, but it is only appearance.
Krystal System knows what is good in music and full of passion creates a unique blend of sounds, that will move even the most hardened conservatives. The band creates an interesting musical collages, which combined with intelligent lyrics sung in both English and French, sexy female vocals, decide that their work gets in the memory for a long time.
Malcontents may complain, that the heavy metal elements are taken directly from the work of Rammstein, but after all, the German band was also inspired by the earlier achievements of other artists.
There is no art in playing someone else's sound, but the trick is to create a specific atmosphere that pulls the listener for good. And Krystal System artists are able to do so.
On their album, they argue against the passive mass culture. Tracks like 'Idols' and 'New World', note the type of relations prevailing at the present time in our society - people do not devote the time to get to know themselves and people close to them, they do not try to think for themselves, but exist blindly to espoused by generally accepted rules of proceeding. No one wonders why is it so and why we can not communicate with others, accept ourselves and open up to things that are different for us.
In today's world it seems, that everything is an illusion, and turning away from the realities of life we are suspended in a virtual world, where feelings are reduced to a minimum, and what surrounds us is a landscape full of emotional emptiness. We run away from reality, ourselves, everyday problems and also from things that can make us reflect, and to deliberate on our lives.
The track ‘Demain n'existe pas’ is a specific response to "There's no Tomorrow" from Clan of Xymox.
"Underground" is a very emotional record. It is also extremely powerful debut that has a chance to write down for a long time in the arcane of electronic music play.
