Such albums has become rarities recently. In the ocean of about ambient artists it’s getting harder and harder to find something which delights from the very first track or at least is interesting enough to be listened to more than once. Being an extremely choosy person it’s even harder for me to find something like this, so I’m glad when finally something enchants me. More to the point. Debuting (not to mention a small release in 2009) Rasalhague, drawing inspiration from the history of a little girl imprisoned by her own mother, has created amazing wall of sounds perfectly reflecting a long lasting nightmare. All six tracks are full of darkness and the atmosphere of hopelessness and trap when your own mother becomes an executioner and home becomes a prison is perceptible. Momentarily the vision of a girl sitting in the darkness surrounded by dirty walls and waiting for another visit of mother-monster is almost tangible.
As you can see (or perhaps hear) the atmosphere of "Rage Inside the Window" is not light at all, but this is how dark ambient albums should be like. And even though the history lying behind Rasalhague creation brings to mind only negative associations, the music itself sends pleasant chills down the spine. More to that it’s a great DVD digipack with amazing graphic arts perfectly emphasising the atmosphere of the album.
