I really like my job but sometimes one must... take a breath. Are you in the same boat at times? I hope you breathe, without regeneration you can burn out fast and in a very unpleasant way. And we surely do not want to lose our precious Readers:) So, let me dust off a CD for you, perhaps a bit forgotten (for had its premiere by the end of July...2010) by the group Secret Druid Society.

Ambient. Really, not many of us may know what this notion covers, at least without catching a glimpse at Wiki... I’m not going to bore you with history of music, enough to mention that the genre is much, MUCH older than even the legend of electronic classic, Vangelis. And, as it is in case of ambient, it is really difficult to be innovative and creative: by assumption it consists of mostly sound blurs, sometimes even sound masses, geared for pure and simple "making impression". No beats, no even a half of note making a definite rhythm. Whether it’s right or wrong – hard to estimate, for it is simply so: either you like ambient or not, one can sympathize with it to a greater or lesser degree, but it would be really hard to demarcate within the genre itself– all here seems just delusively similar.

Nevertheless, it’s worth to attempt to mark out some features which differentiate the album "Restless" from other positions from this genre. First of all, the mood constructed by the musicians themselves is itself quite unique.
Ambient for meditation? Rather a post-apocalyptic one in this particular case. Every consecutive sound layer intensifies uneasiness, it doesn’t incite hope, yet it doesn’t deprive of it, if one has it at all. The music simply... is. This time I won’t commit musical analysis of each and every track separately because I have the impression that this would totally miss the authors’ intentions – this album should be listened to from the beginning to the end and in exactly such order in which it’s been recorded. It is a whole, a complete work. I assume that dividing music into particular pieces is an artificial and forced, as well as, most importantly – unnecessary procedure. As I’ve mentioned before, the notion of prescribed key fades away, thus it would be a sin to differentiate the respective tracks... But it all has its point: in a truly beautiful description of the record (and the attached photographs) we feel that each of them carries a different message. Coherent with the whole, of course, but, by its means, inimitably and individual.

Whom is this item for? Those who are tired but in peace with themselves and the world, acknowledge the things as they are and searching for perspectives if, and to which point, one can influence flow of events. It’s the thing which you listen to with closed eyes, the body lying down in a comfortable position (even though the title might suggest something different ;)). For those who want to find a musical background for serene thoughts. But also for those who are in search of such serenity. This is a musical tale of a man, in which nearly each of us can find his/her place... if only you search well.
