Beginning of a scientific approach to chemistry was an announcement from seekers of the philosopher's stone tragic resignation. However, Italian trio Alkemic Generator proves, that in field of music abandonment of a successive repetition of algorithms based on proven knowledge for a long time does not have to be a dead end.
Listening to debut album The Oniric Geometry, we will not experience a dream. That material is consisting mainly of danceable EBM with addition of heavy guitars - although that general statement does not reflect the multiplicity of styles and unique character of the music band. The most important element, that makes it different from other projects of that genre is an opera female vocal. For that reason, you can easily find comparison to ShirayasDream and Dark Angel album from Lamia project, and combining these formations with Polish Desdemona’s inflected music, the listener can have some idea of the present material, but it will definitely be incomplete.
In preparation of their elixir trio spares no melody, passion and a strong blow, that with powerful force comes out of each track. Expanding the spectrum of transmitted emotions, in which there is place and sadness (desperate Erased), and to sense of loss, faith (Wish) and also moderately dosed aggression, it serves listener a taste of noble alcohol - sometimes there are visions caused by thujone, sometimes memory with a glass of wine. It is a considerable contribution of Sanja Aveic, female vocalist, who easily transmits while singing different emotional states, sometimes resorting to strong opera parties, elsewhere using a melancholy and charismatic vocal (in which sometimes reminds Snovonne).
It is impossible to find a weak point in the material. But there are moments that draw a particular attention - as full with darkness Illusion and My Karma. In the first composition shines varied vocal - from striking opera singing, which takes listener to vague, mysterious visions to the strong, hard manner. All that is accompanied by a heavy, hypnotic beat and work of rhythm guitar. In My Karma a peculiar trance effect is obtained by similar to ritual vocals, tribal elements woven into electronic sequences and frightening whisper in the chorus.
In addition to heavy tracks (approaching in some way to harsh Maruta using a male voice), representing a majority, Alkemic Generator reveals its softer face in dark wave compositions as starting with piano, passing in time to a vigorous Emotion, or modest, reflective Solitude that reminds Qntal with its electronics. Material is ended by Warlies, wherein symphony’s pieces gradually compose together with electronics, guitar and dramatic vocal, at some point uniting with children singing, thus enhancing desire to escape from the pain, of what has passed. The tension that is built during the track is relieved in slowly fading violin.
Also fans of Apoptygma Berzerk will find something for themselves - piece Nobody's Wife with a much more optimistic than the whole album, pop tinge.
When it comes to remixes prepared for album, Rotersand sets the bar high. It is perfect for the dance floor, a substantial futurepop, where euphoric, developing into trance sequences with almost narcotic effect are scrolling with slow passages reinforcing the dark nature of the original composition, while perfectly complementing each other. Sonik Foundry offers remix in soman’s style, but it does not reveals something new, on the other hand Japanese group Gothika prepared work quite annoying in its similarity to the 8-bit compositions.
In The Oniric Geometry lies hit potential - although that is music of dark genres, it is approachable. And whether Alkemic Generator is able to pretend to the name of Albertus Magnus in dark electronics, will determine their next releases, you can be sure, that formation found its own means to convert lead into gold.
