It seems that this musical duo wants to repeat the success they achieved three years ago... They can manage it, because the new Blackfield's album is remarkably reminiscent of their debut one. But is it a better record? Surely melodious. The masterpiece, in this aspect, is the song “Miss U”. Yes, a song. There only a few compositions. These are – jarring “Epidemic”, (slightly) psychedelic ”My Gift Of Silence” and the last ( apocalyptic one) “End Of The World”. And lyrics are alike: a great deal about love. The kind with no happy ending. Simple stories ( “Miss U” ). Or even trivial ones (“Where Is My Love?”). As it is in life. The exception is “Christenings” - supposedly an ironic allusion to Syd Barrett. But also “1.000 People” - is it a cynical comment to personal popularity? Steven Wilson and Aviv Geffen have no problems with writing charming, catchy songs. [ I still don't know why, but my ear prefers the vocal of Israeli Geffen... I suppose it stings more the cardiological sensors in my ears...] However Blackfield couldn't bring down the house with the same stylistic for the second time. Freshness is reserved for the debut. One thing is sure: those who were charmed by Blackfield in 2004, they will be charmed once again in 2007. Possible falling in love will last possibly shorter. But... it's worth it.
