"Miele dal salice" is the fourth brainchild of a goth-metal band from Italy: Dismal. The album consists of 10 completely new songs. If I were to sum up this record in just one sentence, I would say without hesitation that the new production is just nice. The whole compilation is very harmonic, simply full of esotericism (btw, it's a good material for a mesmeric seance), made in the Art Nouveau style. Special attention should be paid to very interesting arrangements, made with the participation of electric violins, oriental and classical instruments and electronics – such a range of various tone colours and sounds creates quite a charming musical collage. However, although such a rich orchestra was used, there are no big surprises on the album, just delicate elations. Its most serious shortcoming is, apparently, the percussion or rather the lack of it. There is no denying that the band plays using a so-called 'deadman' that is a drum machine, which unfortunately does not sound very good. While listening to the record, I got the impression that the band did not make use of their whole potential, I mean especially the semi-operatic voice of Rossana Landi (who is a jazz singer by education.) There is no denying that the woman has a lot of strength and it would be good if she threw in some more vocal power from time to time. The same is with guitars – they are too dimmed because of eclectic sounds. Thus, I do not recommend this record to the devotees of a strong female vocal (such as Tarja Turunen's – the former vocalist of Nightwish), set in heavier and more distinct sounds; unless, for some calmer evenings. But I can definitely recommend "Miele dal salice" to the admirers of clear, crystal sounds. It is addressed to the audience that is sensitive to the 'musical touch' – because this compilation has its mission. Its task is to play around with the listeners' senses, making for them a carnival of mind and leading them tactfully from one side of the oneiric madness to another…
As far as I am concerned, these are two proper jiggers of pure pleasure – that is about 70 per cent ;)
