Industrial music is on and on undergoing a renaissance. With unfaltering strength constantly arise formations, which deeply penetrate various undiscovered regions of this genre, still remaining outside the generally accepted mainstream. You can search for your sound, or follow the one indicated by the illustrious predecessors trail, but I think the most important thing is to be oneself, while not to expose to be funny or generic.
Without seeing the cover, you can get an impression that this is a new release from the creator of the Nine Inch Nails. Sounds of "Trials and tribulations," oscillate so near the accomplishments of aforementioned formation, that without a thorough introspection of the disc contents, you can easily get confused. Therefore, it is impossible to escape comparisons with that group, but in no case is it a disgrace to this album, and undoubtedly it is an advantage.
The industrial sound hegemon had many imitators, which sometimes led to creation of music ephemera’s which do not contribute much to music like Stabbing Westward, or to inept copy as Filter.
Emotional charge which offers to the listeners Halo In Reverse, is a combination of what is the best in Nine Inch Nails – it is just like Joshua Steffen skim the cream of their previous recordings.
"Trials and tribulations," is a mature release, over which hovers a non human spirit, with a strong beat reinforced by guitars, literally traversing the air, in which is the entire vibrating machinery, forming the sound basis for the group.
The lyrical input composes perfectly with music, and together they form parables of dark spirituality, deeply hidden feelings that not a one person would push aside to the bottom of proverbial closet. Audible contents are carefully selected samples, processed by various electronic widgets, ominous synths, seasoned with a dose of altered guitars and drum machine, which in a devoted way fulfills its role in divesting of any illusions.
This album includes what in industrial music matters the most. Powerful sound and intelligent lyrical content attract attention. Tracks on this album create a compatible unit that holds a high level.
Among the many returning veterans of an ambitious play, this album stands out, and despite some musical connotation, is like a new, fresh breath of air.
It reminds us of what is in this music most important – presented industrial aesthetics restores forgotten structures of the various mechanisms that cause reactions in a living organism. With the scheme of the electronic drum beats, Halo In Reverse strikes successively songs, which move with masterful precision the appropriate strings of sensitivity.
Publication considers the different angles of the human scale of emotionality, in the dehumanized world of an affluent consumption.
It is an intriguing, original album, using in a skillful way harnessed instrumentation, exactly as it should be.
