Khocico: How was the project [haven] established? Could you tell a bit of the project's history?

-[haven]: The project [haven] is a relatively new one, it was formed one year ago. At that period my early music ideas started to take on a partial form. So I can't talk about an impressive history yet. I believe the project's history is in the course of making and I'm very happy with that.


K: What about the most important concerts of yours? Which of them you find the best? Is there a band you would particularly want to play with?

-[h]: Actually, I've played only one concert so far - vide set with synta[XE]terror, so it's hard to pick the most important unequivocally ;) But seriously, I hope that in the nearest future I'll manage to organize the concert in Wrocław which will improve my statistics a good deal :) As to the band I'd like to play with, well, the list would be too long. For a form i shall enumerate raison d'etre, arcana, rukkanor, cold fusion, job karma and fields of the nephilim ;)


K: Could you describe the music you play? What inspires you?

-[h]: Well, to be honest, I think the pigeonholing is pointless as the contemporary music is usually a collage of several elements. It's the same with my music: it's a combination of seemingly opposing elements. It's a little universe in which the reflexiveness of sacrum intermingles with the industrial noise and the ephemeral breath of orient floats over the whole. As to the inspiration: practically every impression may become one as long as it's plastic enough to be freely formed. However, I usually look for the drive to make music in literary and, of course, music works.


K: What are the main literary works that your artistic output bases upon then?

-[h]: I think that none of the works I've read corresponds directly with what I do. The inspiration resolves in certain impulses which aren't overmuch formed. Nonetheless if I was to enumerate some writers that I value I would choose Michał Bułhakov, Witold Gombrowicz, Vladimir Nabokov, Franz Kafka, Stanisław Ignacy Witkiewicz etc. As for the poets these are Izydor Ducasse, Stephane Mallarme, Charles Baudelaire, Arthur Rimbaud and Federico Garcia Lorca.


K: Which Polish and foreign bands influenced your music the most?

-[h]: I think that every band had a bigger or less influence on me. After all relation to music is a great experimental range and inspirations come naturally.


K: What are the crucial differences between your last album "the last breath of lonely buildings" and the present achievements?

-[h]: I believe the new material that is in the course of production now will be more intelligible. It will be enriched with greater amount of melodiousness and oriental elements. Definitely, it's not a preview of a drastic stylistic volte.


K: To what extent are the visualizations important for your performance? What is their function?

-[h]: The visualizations play important part in the performance as the ambient concert is usually quite unattractive (vide statics on the scene). So it's good to have the medium that attracts the audience's attention. Additionally, an interestingly arranged visualizations strengthen the music reception by creating the proper atmosphere.


K: Could you tell a bit about those visualizations, what is their atmosphere, who makes them and what is their meaning?

-[h]: The person responsible for the visualizations is Dobermann and he is the one to be asked about them, actually :) The theme of the visualizations usually corresponds with the aesthetics of the particular set.

-Dobermann: I listen to the music, I close my eyes and I imagine what I'd like to see during the listening and I look for it in reality. In my opinion the album's title isn't proper (“last breath of the lonely buildings”) as these buildings are really alive; it's just that they live the other life and they are not as lifeless as they seem. At least it's not that obvious to me. The fact that we do not notice life somewhere doesn't mean that there is no life at all. As for me the most interesting thing is when you visit the place and you see that it is changing, like for example something has fallen away somewhere, there is a new branch in other place and so on. Despite the fact that these are “dead stones” they still undergo some changes... you could even count a fool's spray pictures to that :) Generally speaking, for me and for katakan as well such post apocalyptic vision perfectly corresponds with [haven]'s music, which is alike anxious as the images


K: What are Polish and foreign ambient projects that you value most?

-[h]: Poland, despite the common opinion, is not musically parochial if we compare it to Europe ; there are great projects here. It's enough to mention such bands as Job karma, Moan, Rukkanor, Cold fusion, synta[XE]rror, Hati etc. Additionally, the indigenous independent scene is developing very fast which is a positive and ennobling phenomenon. As far as European projects are concerned, Raison d'etre, Arcane, Sephirotha, Bad sektor, Post Scriptum etc. etc. (I could enumerate forever) I appreciate most.


K: What are your future concert and publishing plans?

-[h]: I hope I'll be able to play the concert in Wrocław at the beginning of the next year. I also wish to organize a fest in the nearest future where apart from [haven] and synta[XE]rror the bands like rukkanor and cold fusion could play. What will come out of it – the time will show. As far as my publishing plans are concerned, I think the second CD of [haven] will be out in the last quarter of 2006.
