ASP are versatile. Changeable. Without compromise. Not only is singer and mastermind Asp the person who brought us the 'gothic novel rock' genre, and at the same time he never fails to write, indeed describe, the often rapidly expanding stories on a personal and emotional level. Despite all the complexity, he nevertheless makes it easy for you to empathasise with such sombre figures as the 'Schwarzer Schmetterling', to fall in love with a spooky decoy called 'Astoria', as the 'Zaubererbruder'. There can always be found a subliminal tone that is critical of society and which induces you to contemplation. Social ethics are woven in as an element that comes alive. On "GeistErfahrer" album Asp got his good friend Timo Wuerz on board, who created over 50 (!) pages of new artwork for the re-release.

Covenant - The Blinding Dark

"The Blinding Dark" does not contain as many hits as classics like "Northern Light" or "United States Of Mind", and it is surely less pleasant than Covenant's most striking earworms "Dead Stars" and "Happy Man". Still, "The Blinding Dark" is exciting not only because of its telling title, but also since it shows a remarkable development in style, something that Covenant decidedly wanted with this record - and not least thanks to the subject matter they address. Of course, dancefloors will still shake during "Sound Mirrors", "Immortal" or "I Close My Eyes", yet the albums focuses rather suppressed tracks of subtle darkness such as the Kraftwerk- and Jarré-inspired "Dies Irae" and the Lee Hazelwood (!) cover "Rider On A Wild Horse", a 1977 country anthem that has been turned into a sombre, sluggish electro requiem with heavy acoustic drums.

ASP - Live...Auf Rauen Pfaden

On one evening, the band performed a 'best of rock' show featuring the greatest hits of their career to date. And on the other respective evening, singer Asp and his musicians presented a unique type of concert in the form of an intimate semi-unplugged show featuring new arrangements, rarely-heard pieces and long-lost treasures, especially for this anniversary tour, now released in the form of the 4CD set 'ASP Live... auf rauen Pfaden'.
The first two discs immortalise the 'Rare & Pure' semi-acoustic evening, whereas the remaining two CDs contain the complete sweat-inducing 'Best Of Rock' concert. The setlist presents over 40 (!) songs across a playing time of nearly five hours, resulting in a first-class concert experience.
