Italian giallo film creator, Dario Argento, is known for his trilogy about the three mothers, the first of which, the Mother of Sighs, was hiding in a ballet school in Freiburg. For some time, Italian-German cooperation reminds me of another mother - Mother of Sin.

The German band Madre del Vizio so far remained unknown to me, but for the Polish audience it is well known from their performance at the Castle Party Festival 2009. I regret the more, I had not discovered before any recordings of formation, because, as it turns out, from the first sounds the music draws listener into the death rock world of border - near-death, life, love, lust, guilt, occult metaphors.
The group was founded in 1990 by Silke Hofmann, Janusz Zaremba, Mark Hofmann and Fulvi Tori. Un Mondo Dove.... is a compilation released in 2008, containing the best songs from the period 1990-1997. All - from Amore, Fede, Speranza and the final one issued before the break-up in 1997 composition Carcerazione = Morte placed on a compilation The New Face Of Apollyon - have been remastered, so you can not hear divergence in a sound quality.

And the sound itself is unusual for the gothic group from Europe. First one, which points out, is a specific for the American death rock character of music. Rising obvious associations with the early work of Christian Death and similar bands (you can discern influences, among others. 45 Grave), however, it retains its individuality. A major advantage is certainly vocal. And it's not just about the fact that Flavio, deriving from Italy, decided to sing in mother language - a broad interpretive abilities allow him to easily manipulate climate and definitely add value to individual tracks. Sometimes aggressive, sometimes like from a horror movie, at other times melancholy until the dramatic, mournful, almost agonal shouting (remember Cultus Sanguine?) - Flavio not for a moment disappoints expectations.
Atmosphere is build masterfully both by typical for gothic and death rock elements, such as a low, distorted guitars, specific bass lines, but extending all poetic expression of variety of music of Madre Del Vizio - choir, organ and bell sounds, parts of the mass, Italian march and other samples. In a subtle Sudore E Sangue appears a female vocal that perfectly corresponds to lyrical guitar play and Flavio’s melorecitation.
The climate on the record is not homogeneous. We have typical atmospheric sound of the 90’s, but there are much more punk compositions, or ones flirting with the heavy metal (Entra Nel Mondo), from the melancholic guitar play, slow gravity to thrilling compositions stylistically related to the specifics of horror. You can not deny them, however, all of them are ear catching. The text layer of Madre del Vizio takes us into a poetic tale full of metaphors about death.
I respect the most Amore, Fede, Speranza (choral entrance – after which slowly enter the drums, bass guitar, gradually kicks off the play of the electric guitar and dramatic vocal indicating three cardinal virtues – it’s hard to forget), beginning and ending with a sampled-into tenor (sounding as it came from an old gramophone record) Un Mondo Dove and Carcerazione = Morte - with characteristically low-tuned sounding of guitar and keyboards, and demonic vocal expression (fragments are stylized to a desecrated child song). Unfortunately, the last track, instead of starting a new era in the history of the band, was the last composition released before it collapsed.
Both fans and ones who are intending to acquaint with the formation’s music should be satisfied with the choice of tracks. There are both the most famous and largest compositions of the group (from Amore, Fede, Speranza at the head) as well as those, that could have been found so far only on rare compilations.

Madre del Vizio reactivated in 2005, and since then formation has released two studio albums - Antonomasia and Amare L'Amore - both well received by the critics.
If you ever fancy to a night walk through the catacombs, but fate made, you live on an ordinary Poznan housing estate, do not hesitate to reach for the Un Monde Dovo... Madre Del Vizio - you will be delighted.
