The debut album of the project Mekanik Disorder depicts the essence of EBM style and is reminiscent of projects like D.A.F., Absolute Body Control or Front 242.
The perpetrator of this mechanical mess is César Cruz from Granada, known already for his performances in the formation Internia. Being the singer and primarily responsible for the verbal layer (his brother, Jose Carlos, was dealing with the rest) for Internia, he tried his own thing as a musician (or rather a programmer) with Mekanik Disorder.
The result of his efforts – the album Cold & Strong - is a clear reference to the eighties, a tribute to the Körpermusik-aesthetics and returns to the roots of this genre. Hard dance beats, powerful, electronically modified vocals, and almost synthpop melodies in the background – as such you can briefly describe the content of the album.
A characterisation of their music is also the multi-linguality. Cruz turns out to be a real polyglot. He sings in English (7 songs), German (3), Spanish (1), and even in Dutch (1)! All this language-mix has no negative impact on the cohesion of the album (rather, it varies it).
Cold & Strong is perfectly introduced by the song "Stigmatized". Dark and minimalistic. Dynamic and trance. It gives a good idea of the whole material. Another item in the set is arranged and kept minimalistic: the up-tempo song "Das Letzte Mal", awakening associations with D.A.F. (due to the German-language text, aggressive vocals and dance-floor rhythm).
Equally disasterous pieces are "Ich Kontrolliere" (reminds somehow of a record by Siekiera at the time of "Nowa Aleksandria"), "Pieces of Mine", "Disorder On My Mind" and the ending track "Ik Ben God Nyet".
On the other side we can put the songs, in which Cesar allows himself lesser obvious experiments with the form. To this group count the captivating, mysterious and different electro-encapsulated tracks - "Hate At First Sight", "Kalte Leidenschaft" and "Orgullo Minero".
I would like to add that Mekanik Disorder is not solely a studio-project – it also has a live incarnation. The "live"-project expands to a trio. Cruz is assisted on the stage by Fran Rubino on the keyboards and Gilberto Gamez on the synthesizers.
