My friend, who was once occupied with fishing in exotic waters, told me one day that you need to catch a few dozens of mussels to find one pearl inside them. "It’s exactly the same as in music" – I replied clinking glasses of tea with him:-) - "you must listen to several dozens of records to fish out a real pearl from them". "...or even more..." – I added after a while of concern...

According to the legends, true pearls are congealed tears of angels. I don’t know how much misters David Baque (music), Thomas Foucher (graphics), Jean-Marie Arnouil (photography) and Lionel Tran (literature) have in common with angels, nor of they’ve cried while the recording process, but their work is the truest pearl. The album "Traverser", which I menton here, was made as a kind of musical illustration to a short story by Lionel Tran "Traverser du Desert" (Ed. Egone 2002), which can be very freely translated as "Traversing a Desert".

The first thing that strikes is, uncommonly appearing in such sort of undertakings, coherence of the whole concept, despite, or maybe thanks to apparent digressions, after all whether the sun is burning, the night is ice-cold, we are traversing the same boundless desert. It doesn’t matter if we treat it literally, or this "desert" will be only a symbol of our everyday life....
If then, dear listener, you will wish to set off on this quite difficult, but thus very emotional "travel" you will find how much one can say with the use of such a few measures. Without needless pathos and sound garlands, Rrupt presents refined ethno-industrial, of course solidly based on o Middle Eastern motives, characteristic chants, interchangeably associated tones of oriental instruments, and all this interlaced with incredible balance and taste, modern electronics,
hypnotic, "haunted" loops, repetitive phrases and single embellishments, and slightly let through distortion beats, which gives unique impression of trance in Rrupt’s music. What’s more, he freely moves between soporific calm and distressing anxiety, guaranteeing abundance of emotions.

Similarly suggestive kind of illustration was achieved by our native [haven] on his (probably) best by now album "Naos" and practically these two records host within my player interchangeably, always when I feel like needing equally exciting and demanding special attention "travel through a desert". Both albums are special because Rrupt has never recorded anything again, and [haven] on his later albums faced a somewhat different materią, loosely referring and only here and there to his opus magnum. I’d like to say here, that it doesn’t matter that Rrupt hasn’t recorded anything anymore, because anyway he scheduled permanently into history of music with his brilliant album, but it isn’t true. Not many people have ever heard about this flash of brilliance realized by the four Frenches.

Conchiolinum, of which the pearls are made, is an organic substance, thus it isn’t a permanent material. It gets old. That’s why pearls, as time goes by, turn mat at the beginning, they cover themselves with a net of small crevasses, they start to peel off until the finally spill... Then no longer you will find much information today about a kind of collectiva of artists, working under a name of Rrupt, insignificant trace has been left after the publishing house founded by them, called Egone, but album, which they have left behind is a real treasure. It has survived bravely the test of time, what’s more – it’s still available to buy in respected distribution points, what I trully recommend to do, because in this special case, it is probably even easier than finding the album in the Net or pearl in mussels from Biedronka (=’Ladybird’, local cheap market):-).
