It is quite difficult to write anything about albums, that can put the listener into a trance and allow him to feel the atmosphere of the record. One of that albums is "Despartica -Face One" from Rukkanor. The gloomy atmosphere, as if from another era, can make you lose the track of time... In the Rukkanor music attention is immediately drawn to an element occurring almost always - in the background, behind the vocal and 'occasional' appearing ‘instruments' can be heard the same disturbing rumbling sounds. They give tracks an apocalyptic climate, as in the case of "I Am", in which mumbling melorecitation gives the whole experience of a soundtrack to a catastrophic movie. It is similarly with "Anthem For Doomed Youth", but the track I mentioned achieved the effect probably by the use of the German language and, following the path of associations, the sounds of marching - "Anthem For Doomed Youth", in turn, with no doubt would work as the soundtrack to the adaptation of "1984" by George Orwell. Attention should be also paid to the beautiful (aptly named) " Beauty and Beauty", which is almost a textbook example of ambient. However, it is also something, that distinguishes it from the latest achievements of e.g. Burzum. It is the vocal, that was not converted and this mumbling voice collides with some military background. Here, and throughout the whole album, attention should be paid to the texts - melancholic, sometimes telling about quite contradictory feelings, death, love, loneliness... And that, combined with the distinctive vocal, help to achieve this spectacular result, which was also obtained in "The Divine Image - A Story Of Experience", which in turn is accompanied by some wailing melorecitation of monks’... However, not the whole "Despartica - Face One" is kept in a homogeneous climate. To these exceptions can be included oriental "Jerusalem" - there last only Rukkanor’s classical vocals, or light blues and rock "The Old Woman", where instrumental layer may resemble to TBP. Here finally, apart from a compact, depression wave of distorted sounds, you can hear a certain melody; in addition, although association can not be quite in a place, in Marciniak’s voice can be heard a kind of depth, such as in vocal of e.g. Ville Vallo... Despite all, that I have already mentioned, it is difficult to specify the feelings that accompany listening of "Despartica - Face One" - you just have to acquaint with it by yourself...
