This year's Czyżynalia, student's annual open - air party in Cracov, became even better because of an extraordinary band - Śmiałek, added at the last-minute to the line-up.
This unusual project was formed in Cracov by composer and author of lyrics Paweł Szarek and charismatic vocalist - Karol Śmiałek in 2005. This group of talented musicians and performers is making an atmosphere of noir cabarets, changing into the rock band, but still with poetical lyrics and amazing show full of lighting and pirotechnical effects. This artistic mashup is becoming more popular year by year.
Czyżynalia were the first chance for Śmiałek to perform in front of such a big audience, on the open-air stage. The band played in clubs with intimate atmosphere until this day. Playing with great and well known bands like Dżem and KSU was also a challenge for the band.
After a strong, guitar intro, Karol Śmiałek came out on the stage. We could see a lot of fans of the band and curious people in the audience. The sounds of rythmical song "Na nic", then a ballad "To miłość". Later a mysterious woman in white clothes, with bandaged mouth occured on stage. Performer Erzulia, danced with convulsive moves to "Pogłoski o końcu miłości". The show was increased even more when the strange creature on a little children's bike - grotesque performer Śpiewak. In stripy clothes, with painted face and with curiosal installation on his head, made of magnifying glasses. He was riding on stage on his bike and dancing in funny way between the musicians, during the "1930" song. The audience was dancing under the influence of Śmiałek's energy. They were even dancing "pogo", the wild dance from punk and metal concerts.
The musicians presented their new composition - "STHENO", played on the concert in April, in Lizard King club in Cracov for the first time. This song is very beautiful, but the audience was focused on performer Vera, that came out on the stage in a nun's uniform and started to undress. After a while, in a macabre-sexy way she poured bloody-wine liquid from a bottle on herself.
The concert was being displayed on the big screen near the stage, so everyone had a chance to see the details of the show.
After an exalted song "Ślad", Śmiałek brought another attraction - cover of "Sonne" a song by Rammstein, but in Russian, ended by a breathtaking performance of Śpiewak, spitting fire and with Erzulia and Vera carring big, red flags.
In the short pause after that hot moment, we heard the recording of Anders Breivik's phonecall from the speakers. But it wasn't the end of the show! In the next song, "Zapal lont", vocalist became incapatitated by Śpiewak and treated by a polishing machine. There were a lot of sparks, literally!
The whole performance could have been continued even "A thousand years", like in the title of another Śmiałek's song, but it has ended with "Vampire" a song, which is an interpretation of a polish poem by Tadeusz Miciński.
The applause of the audience was bigger than anyone could expect. It was a successfully passed test for the band before this year's Castle Party Festival, where the band will play.
Any narration can't hand over the whole magic of Śmiałek's shows, it's the best to experience it personally. The nearest occasion is the 20th June in Cracov's club Lizard King!
