This kind of collaboration was unexpected like the Spanish inquisition – one of heavy metal’s most important vocalists, Rob Halford, has turned back in 1997 from his then favorite genre, stated in few interviews that it’s trashy and without future, and decided to do a completely non-metal album with Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) and John 5 (Marilyn Manson’s guitarist). The result was.. weitd. Halford doesn’t use his heavy metal abilities – he mainly focuses on normal singing. Sometimes it’s more convincing ("Water's Leaking", "My Ceiling's Low"), sometimes less ("If" czy zwłaszcza "Wake Up"). The one we can hear on this album the most is Reznor – although he doesn’t sing on any track – his characteristic arranging patents and sampling are easy to identify just after first hearings. There’s not too much guitars on this record, actually they’re more important only in the single "I Am A Pig". Even if Halford’s diehard fans quickly stated that "Voyeurs" is the absolutely worst thing their idol has ever touched, it’s really a quite nice album. The highlights are already mentioned "I Am A Pig", conventional "Deep In The Ground" or album’s two greatest songs: "Water's Leaking" and "My Ceiling's Low". Schizophrenic "Hey, Sha La La" is also quite intriguing, as well as the closing ballad "Bed Of Rust". The only ones that really annoy are boring "If" and silly, commercial punk-like "Wake Up", which sounds like some Sum 41. Unfortunately, they ruin album’s overall atmosphere and decide of it’s unequal quality. This collaboration could have been so much better, if only Reznor forgot about his soft industrial rhythms and go into more industrial metal way, like on Nine Inch Nails’ "Broken". With Halford’s vocals it could be really epic.. But we only got this nice, though quite average album, which could have been promising. Unfortunately, Halford became discouraged by it’s poor selling, quickly disbanded Two and returned to it’s metal roots. I suggest Judas Priest’s fans should keep away from this CD, but Nine Inch Nails’ fans can really like it.
