Another winning album from the hellish stable of Alfa-Matrix. After the 6 years of an artistic slowdown, Dominik Van Reich, the soul and the body of AmGod, made a comeback in a grand style. Once more we deal with outstanding mixture of industrial dirt and schizoid, electronic sounds which take us on the pleasurably tiring journey. This is truth, the reception of this double cd album isn’t easy and as for me it doesn’t belongs to the type of "love at the first hearing" but on the other hand we cannot complain at the monotony. Unique combinations of sounds endlessly surprise on "Dreamcatcher" as well as bizarre and broken rhythms (f.ex. "War Tap", "Paranoia"). From time to time, it wreaks havoc by using changes of tempo ("Schulding (Gulity)") and puts a listener in a psychedelic mood. Additionally, it should be mentioned that both cds have different subtitles which in terms of content differs stylistically. I admit that "Creeped and Bloody" is my favourite album because of more melodic and coherent material. We can find here a few pearls of undeniable beauty as energetic "Massaker" or "Nightmare" which charms by its solemn atmosphere. "No comment" and "Pain and desire" also deserve the attention because of their danceable character. The album is crowned with depressive and hart-rending "The End". In general, the disc number 1 is a kind of prelude to the sick sounds presented on the second disc.
CD nr 2, that is "Harsh and dirty" – here we never find bland melodies or easy refrains. At the beginning, compositions discourage listeners because of chaos and lack of actual rhythm. Dense and anxious atmosphere of pre-hell is dominating which by turns torture and hypnotise. The interlude, pessimistically entitled "My love is gone" is the only cheerful trait on this album which is a breather after overwhelming "Blood on wall". I return to "Soulhunter" (cover of the former Van Reich’s project – YelworC) with pleasure as well as to "Dreamcatcher" which I would compare to the breath of fresh air in musty and claustrophobic catacombs ;) "Dreamcatcher" is a conceptual album as it was in the case of AmGod works. Again, the lyrics oscillate between Nietzschean deliberations on human being and it’s divine nature – praising self-admiration and egoism. The essence of van Reich’s reflections could be found in the song "Like a prayer" where characteristic words |I am God, worship me| perfectly reflects his convictions and should be the leading motto of this album.
In my opinion, "Dreamcatcher" is not easy to subdue, it has an influence on the gloomy recesses of people’s minds, hence I recommend it to those who feel like having a swallow of music destruction in the purest form:) Cheers!
