The musical history of Fading Colours is long and very diversified. They started in 1986 as Bruno Wątpliwy. In 1988 they achieved success at the greatest Polish rock festival, for instance in Jarocin. At the beginning of the 90's the band was joined by Katarzyna Ziemek, better known as De Coy. Moreover, the band change its name to Bruno The Questionable. In 1993 a record "Black Horse" came out and yet again the band's name changed, this time to Fading Colours, which name the group has stuck to ever since. In Spring 1995 the album entitled "Black Horse" was released.

"Black Horse" is the first studio album of the band, which marked the beginning of dark trance genre in Poland. The record starts with "Unreality", which already introduces a listener to the melodic, yet a bit gloomy atmosphere of the album. The title track "Black Horse", which occupies the second position of a track list, is one of my favorites of the release. It presents a catchy melody with great, distinctive vocals. One do not have to wait long to hear a ballad by Fading Colours. "Love" is made up of delicate, mild and pleasant tones which bring to mind the ballads from the 80’s. The voice of Katarzyna perfectly matches such music – she sings in a soft, deep voice. "Dreams" starts with rock guitars which impeccably harmonize with De Coy’s vocals. A catchy chorus and a bit heavier style of the track create musically amazing atmosphere and do not allow to stand still. "Wedding" can be regarded as the most guitar track of the record. Although those guitars interlace with calmer, soothing sounds, it definitely shows the more aggressive side of Fading Colours. The album ends with "Colours", which from the very first tone takes you on a journey to gloomily oriental world of sounds.

"Black Horse" is deeply rooted in the atmosphere of the 80’s. While listening to some of the tracks, one cannot resist associating their sound with the bands like The Cure or The Sisters of Mercy. Over the years Fading Colours, except for their name, have also changed the music they play. "Black horse" is certainly the album I like the most. It is very likely the record will also appeal to other lovers of post-punk music.
